Dance Italia (Lucca, Italy)
A three week summer dance intensive, July 30 - August 17, 2012.
OPENING NIGHT BENEFIT PARTY - March 8th (click here for tickets)
Stefanie Nelson dancegroup hosts a Benefit Party directly following the opening night premiere of Prolegomena II at Joyce SoHo. Music, food, open bar, mingle with the dancers and meet the minds behind this innovative collaboration, while helping to support our mission.
Creative movement and dance develops childrens' physical skills, channels their energy, stimulates their imagination and promotes their endlessly facinating creativity.
Creative dance in early childhood education corresponds to the fundamental phase of movement development that occurs between the ages of two to seven.
We explore…
-Locomotor movement - creeping, walking, running, jumping, leaping and galloping
-Nonlocomotor movement - stretching, bending, twisting, turning, shaking and swinging
-Stability and Balance
-Imaginative Play

A new work by New York choreographer Stefanie Nelson for seven dancers, created in collaboration with visual artist Karolien Soete and soundician Alexander Berne. The compositions for movement, stop-motion mural animation and soundscapes were created as part of an ongoing exploration of camera obscura techniques and a fascination with inner and outer spaces. Hailed for work that is “instinctual, untamed and edgy” (Infinite Body), with Prolegomena, Nelson weaves “subtly humorous touches” (Oberon’s Grove) into this “disturbing, sensual and provocative” (Luxury Spot) new work.
Featuring dancers, Gierre Godley, Daniel Holt, Sarah Matry-Guerre, Stefanie Nelson, Sarah Parker, Hunt Parr and Yin Yue.
Original sound scores by composer Alexander Berne with special musical guests ‘The Beast’ and Regina Sadowski (violin).
Light design by Andrew Dickerson.
