RECESS is a monthly public performance series by Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation where both works-in-progress and established pieces can be shared in an intimate setting. Innovation. Experimentation. Deep dives. Creative reviews. It’s all welcome here! RECESS is a safe space for exploration and forging new artistic connections. We offer a public program, performance series, network, platform, and ongoing opportunity to engage performers, patrons, artists, and audience members in a night of performance and creative dialogue. RECESS continues to promote and celebrate the work of diverse artists, in solidarity, throughout 2026 and onward.
Tricia Dietrick
Dance artist with a BFA from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She has performed works by Loni Landon, Doug Varone, and Stefanie Nelson, and was part of the first all-female-identifying cast of José Limón’s The Unsung. Her choreography has been presented in Boston, New York, and Italy, including at Dance Italia Season 15 in Lucca.
Sonya Speizer
Dances to listen, connect, and expand her capacity to feel. Originally from Chicago, she earned a degree in Dance and Anthropology from Fordham University and The Ailey School. She has danced for Annie Rigney and Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup, worked with Ella Rothschild on a creation for Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and apprenticed with Théâtre du Corps Pietragalla-Derouault in Paris.
Thy-Lan Alcalay
French-American performer and creator, and a Barnard College graduate in Dance and Architecture. She was Olivia Rodrigo’s stand-in and movement assistant on the Unraveled Tour and has performed repertory by Pina Bausch, Andrea Miller, and Kyle Abraham. A 2025 SND Next Gen Winner, she has worked with David Dorfman Dance and Graham II, and guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU.
Sanna Frayman
Raised in Brooklyn and a 2024 BFA graduate of SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. She has worked as a guest artist with GALLIM under Andrea Miller and spent a year in Turin, Italy, researching at Nuova Officina della Danza with artists including Tom Weinberger and Ella Rothschild. She now freelances between New York and Paris.
Ali Cederholm
New York City-based artist from Waunakee, WI, and a 2025 graduate of The Boston Conservatory. She has performed works by Aszure Barton, José Limón, and Jennifer Archibald, and dances freelance with eni artist collective, Lam Dance Works, Arch Dansé Ensemble, and Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup. Her commissioned choreography has premiered in New York, Boston, and Madison.
Julienne Buenaventura
Queer artist born in the Philippines and raised in Queens. They hold a BFA from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and were mentored by Maleek Washington through Camille A. Brown’s CABD Mentorship Program. They have performed works by Martha Graham, Roderick George, and Shamel Pitts, and dance with Le Ballet Fou, KAŌS Dance Collective, and PARA.MAR Dance Theater.
